Stop Dr. Laura – Seattle Protest

When: Saturday May 20 at 1:00pm

Where: 333 Dexter Avenue N at Dexter at Harrison. This is the King Communications building, home of King 5 TV (the local NBC affiliate). Dexter is best reached off Mercer Avenue, taking a right onto Dexter if coming from I-5 or a left onto Dexter if coming from Aurora or Queen Anne.

Why: The rally is to protest King 5 and Paramount Studios for airing the Dr. Laura talk show in the Seattle market. Please refer to the attached Dr. Laura quote sheet to see why we are protesting Dr. Laura.

Objective: We have only one major objective in this campaign – to get Dr. Laura off of television in the Seattle market and to pressure Paramount to take her off the air nationally.

How: We have four ways of meeting our objective: calling King 5 station manager Glenn Wright at 206-448-5555 or 206-448-4525; emailing King 5 programming coordinator Christina Fraser at cfraser@King5.com; meeting with the station management; and attending the protest rally on May 20.

Who: The Seattle protest is being sponsored by StopDrLaura.com, Gays and Lesbians Allied Against Defamation (GLAAD), HateWatch, and many local groups.

Speakers: Speakers at the protest will include Robin Tyler (National Protest Organizer for StopDrLaura.com), Jane Ralph (National Education Director for GLAAD), Bryce Butler (President Seattle PFLAG), Jerry Herbert (State Organizer for the Human Rights Campaign), and Pete Gregson (Seattle Protest Organizer). Other speakers may be added.

How Can I Help: There are several ways to help:

1. E-mail and call everyone you know and ask them to attend the protest rally on May 20 and to email and call King 5 TV. Also, ask them to pass this information along to all their friends. A strong presence is needed to get King 5 TV to take Dr. Laura off the air.

2. Speak to any groups with which you have affiliation and ask them to be listed as local sponsors and ask them to inform all their members of the protest on May 20 and the email and phone campaign.

3. Help us poster, pass out flyers the week of the protest, and make signs for the rally.

More Information: Mail Seattle Protest Organizer Pete Gregson @ StopLauraSeattle@aol.com or call 206-417-1478.
